We're now able to solve the issue, but we wanted you to know the situation and what we've done to safeguard our community.

Anyone Minecraft: Java Edition player has the option of uploading their own custom skin in PNG file format to our Webservice on minecraft.net. This will be displayed on their character's in-game character. PNG files can include things other than an image including metadata, which provides information on what tool created it, when it was created, who made it, etc. This allowed for PNG files to be created that contained code. This code could be made but not run or read by the game.

While your antivirus program may detect this code and alert you to its presence, the program will not be able to run by itself. Your antivirus program is expected to detect and stop any attempt to run the program, even if it was found in the file.
